About this plugin
TDR Ultrasonic addresses a fundamental problem in modern production: ultrasonic content generated during recording, processing, or playback can interact destructively with nonlinear systems. When signals containing frequencies above human hearing pass through compressors, limiters, saturation, or tape emulation, intermodulation distortion occurs. This IMD spreads across the frequency spectrum, creating new partials at the sum and difference of existing frequencies. Unlike harmonic distortion, these products often fall into the audible range, subtly degrading mix clarity and definition. TDR Ultrasonic surgically removes this problematic content before it reaches nonlinear stages.
The plugin employs linear phase, variable slope filtering with precise control over the cutoff frequency, allowing surgeons-level targeting of the ultrasonic region. Tokyo Dawn Labs has implemented several sophisticated features beyond basic high-pass filtering: a dynamic ultrasonic gate responds only to actual ultrasonic content, preventing unnecessary processing of clean signals; infinite attenuation at the Nyquist frequency eliminates aliasing artifacts; and a detailed frequency analyzer displays real-time ultrasonic activity and filter response. The interface remains intuitive despite these advanced tools, with resizable graphics for desktop flexibility.

TDR Ultrasonic proves essential for mastering engineers working with oversampled chains and mix engineers pushing saturation-based processing across full mixes. Its surgical approach means you can maintain artistic character in limited ranges while preventing ultrasonic chaos. In an increasingly sample-rate-agnostic production landscape, it represents intelligent infrastructure rather than creative coloration. For anyone serious about maintaining mix integrity through nonlinear processing, TDR Ultrasonic is foundational.
