About this plugin
The SSL Fusion Violet EQ brings a landmark hardware design into the DAW. This 2-band shelving equalizer faithfully models SSL's first new analog EQ circuit in over two decades, developed for the Fusion stereo processor and now meticulously translated to plugin form using hundreds of hardware measurements and close collaboration with the original circuit designers.
The interface centers on four switched frequency points with +/- 9 dB of gain per band, complemented by a high-pass filter inherited from the hardware unit. What distinguishes the Violet circuit sonically is its carefully selected frequency response and gentle shelving curves, which prioritize musicality over surgical precision. Rather than offering infinite parametric control, the fixed-point approach encourages decisive mixing decisions while maintaining the smooth, cohesive character that defined SSL's hardware legacy.

The new FAT button introduces a subtle low-end enhancement when the HPF engages, adding body without obvious coloration. For tracking and overdub sessions, ECO mode reduces latency and CPU consumption without compromising sound quality. Context-aware help accessed via an on-screen question mark provides straightforward guidance for users unfamiliar with SSL's design philosophy.
This plugin suits producers and engineers seeking transparent, musical tone-shaping rather than aggressive EQ moves. It excels on masters, buses, and individual tracks where subtle presence adjustments yield greater results than complex equalization. Standing alongside tools like the API 560 and Neve 1073, the Violet EQ establishes itself as essential for those prioritizing SSL's distinctive sonic signature and proven mixing approach in their modern workflow.
