Product Overview
PUSH is a multiband dynamics processor that operates at 40 ERB (equivalent rectangular bandwidth) frequency bands rather than the typical 2-4 crossover points found in traditional multiband compressors. This perceptually spaced frequency resolution aligns compression decisions with how the human ear actually resolves pitch and timbre, making dynamic control feel natural rather than surgical.
The plugin offers three distinct compression characters. SETTLE delivers gentle, transparent per-band gain reduction optimized for mix bus glue, sitting as a frequency-aware preconditioner ahead of your main compressor. TIGHT prioritizes transient control with fast attack times and per-band release settings, catching peaks that broadband compressors average away. DRIFT applies upward compression to recover detail in sustain tails, room ambience, and high-frequency air without inflating low-frequency mud - a capability unavailable from conventional upward compression.
The technical foundation emphasizes phase coherence. PUSH applies gain to magnitude only, preserving phase relationships across all 40 bands. This eliminates the comb filtering and smearing artifacts that plague traditional crossover-based multiband processors. The 4096-point FFT runs efficiently at under 3% CPU.
PUSH suits mixing engineers refining bus topology, producers addressing problematic transients in drums and bass, and mastering specialists needing surgical detail recovery. At $29 permanently, it occupies an unusual market position - feature-rich enough for professional work yet accessible enough for home studios. The M/S processing and 36 presets provide practical workflow flexibility without overwhelming the four-knob interface.
