About this plugin
McDSP's MC2000 Multi-Band Compressor HD v7 represents a mature approach to multiband dynamic control, offering three plugin variants (2, 3, and 4-band configurations) that address different mixing scenarios. The core architecture emphasizes transparent gain reduction across frequency ranges while maintaining cohesive material integrity, achieved through 24 dB/octave crossover slopes that effectively isolate compression bands without introducing phase artifacts.
The plugin's sonic character derives from its multiple peak detection modes and dual-stage compression modeling, which emulate both vintage and contemporary compressor topologies. The Knee and BITE controls provide meaningful articulation beyond standard ratio and attack/release parameters, allowing engineers to shape compression character rather than simply control dynamics. This approach proves particularly valuable when managing complex material like full mixes, drums, or bass sources where surgical frequency-specific treatment would otherwise require multiple single-band instances.

The HD version's DSP optimization leverages modern processing architecture for zero-latency operation and double-precision calculation, making it suitable for tracking and mixing workflows without compensation delays. Apple Silicon optimization ensures performance parity across platforms, while the two-activation licensing reflects current industry practices.
MC2000 occupies a solidly professional tier alongside comparable tools, distinguishing itself through straightforward interface design and genuine algorithmic depth rather than aspirational aesthetics. It appeals most to mixing engineers and mastering professionals who value reliable multiband compression without unnecessary complexity. For producers working ITB exclusively, the Native version offers comparable functionality without DSP card requirements, making the HD iteration specifically valuable for hybrid studios or facilities leveraging hardware acceleration.
