About this plugin
Cherry Audio's Blue3 is a meticulously modeled emulation of the Hammond tonewheel organ, capturing the sonic character that defined decades of blues, gospel, rock, and jazz. Rather than relying on sample playback, Blue3 employs physical modeling to generate all 91 tonewheels with phase-accurate synchronization, resulting in the characteristic harmonic complexity and natural chorus effects that emerge from vintage instruments. The plugin includes 31 distinct tonewheel sets, accounting for variations across iconic models including the B-3, C-3, A-100, L-100, CV, and M-3.
The interface balances comprehensive control with practical usability. Independent polyphony across upper, lower, and pedal manuals accommodates traditional Hammond performance techniques, while drawbar utilities for copying, swapping, and randomizing presets streamline workflow. The rotary speaker simulation offers genuine flexibility with six cabinet models, adjustable acceleration and deceleration curves, and microphone placement controls that measurably affect the final character.

Blue3's addition of built-in effects - tape echo, spring/plate/hall reverb, and seven-band graphic EQ - extends its applicability beyond strict period accuracy into modern production contexts. The condition controls and multiple overdrive options allow fine-tuning of everything from pristine vintage tone to heavily driven character.
For engineers seeking an organ plugin with legitimate depth beneath the interface, Blue3 represents a meaningful alternative to both CPU-intensive convolution approaches and basic sample playback. The modeling approach scales reasonably well across systems while delivering the harmonic authenticity and responsive feel that session musicians and producers ultimately value.
