About this plugin
Lounge Lizard Session is a physically modeled electric piano plugin that captures the sonic character of classic 1970s and 1980s stage instruments. Built on Applied Acoustics Systems' proven synthesis architecture, it generates authentic tine vibrations and electromagnetic pickup behavior rather than relying on sampled audio, resulting in smooth velocity response without the artificiality of layer-based sample libraries.
The plugin's signal chain includes a compressor and three-band equalizer for tonal shaping, complemented by four high-end effects - tremolo, chorus, phaser, and reverb - all voiced specifically for electric piano characteristics. The character knob provides five distinct signal path emulations representing various studio and stage topologies, allowing quick access to familiar sonic territories from dark, mellow voicings to bright, aggressive configurations.

Sound design operates at the source level through controls affecting mallet behavior, pickup response, tine properties, and tone bar characteristics. This synthesis-based approach yields a memory footprint under 256 MB per instance with rapid preset loading, making it practical for CPU-constrained sessions without sacrificing responsiveness.
Lounge Lizard Session appeals to producers seeking authentic vintage electric piano tones without relying on sample playback, particularly those working in jazz, funk, soul, and retro-influenced genres. Its standalone capability and full MIDI control over parameters make it suitable for live performance and real-time experimentation. Among competing electric piano plugins, its physical modeling foundation delivers superior tonal flexibility and smoother dynamics than traditional sample-based alternatives, though it may require more sound design familiarity than preset-focused competitors.
