About this plugin
reTune is zplane's real-time pitch modification plugin, addressing a distinct gap between traditional pitch correction and creative pitch manipulation. Unlike conventional correctors that quantize to the nearest semitone, reTune maps each detected pitch to user-defined target pitches across the chromatic scale, enabling both systematic retuning and unconventional harmonic remapping within a single interface.
The technical foundation relies on zplane's established pitch detection algorithms, complemented by TONART V2 for automatic key estimation. This combination proves particularly useful when working with source material of ambiguous tonality or when batch-processing multiple takes. The plugin's transient handling and pitch contour smoothing parameters address the artifacts common to pitch-shifting workflows, allowing engineers to preserve attack characteristics while managing the smoothness of pitch transitions.

reTune occupies practical territory between clinical correction and sound design. Vocalists struggling with intonation benefit from its sensitivity controls, which let users dial in how aggressively the plugin responds to pitch deviations. Alternatively, producers can leverage the full chromatic mapping for harmonic experimentation, reinterpreting melodic content across major, minor, modal, and non-Western scales without time-stretching. The preset scale templates accelerate typical workflows while the custom mapping system rewards deeper exploration.
The plugin's real-time processing and straightforward architecture make it suitable for both mixing and performance contexts. While competing solutions like Melodyne offer deeper editing flexibility, reTune's streamlined approach and computational efficiency appeal to engineers prioritizing workflow speed and those comfortable with mapping-based thinking rather than note-by-note manipulation. It represents a pragmatic middle ground in the pitch modification landscape.
