About this plugin
Meaw: Assist represents Safari Audio's entry into AI-assisted music production, positioning itself as a real-time creative collaborator rather than a content generator. The plugin operates through two distinct modes designed for different production contexts. Producer Cat provides high-level creative direction and conceptual guidance, while Engineer Cat focuses on granular mixing decisions with technical precision. This dual approach reflects a deliberate architectural choice to segment artistic ideation from technical problem-solving.
The plugin functions as a traditional insert effect, accepting audio input via playback, live recording, or looped sections. This integration method proves significant because it keeps the AI assistant within the existing DAW workflow rather than forcing external rendering loops. The underlying model is custom-built specifically for music production rather than adapted from general-purpose large language models, which theoretically improves contextual relevance for mixing scenarios.

Meaw suits producers and engineers seeking real-time feedback during mix sessions, particularly those comfortable with AI input in creative decision-making. The tool works best for producers working solo or in distributed sessions where immediate, knowledgeable input might otherwise be unavailable. Its effectiveness depends largely on how well users can translate the AI's suggestions into actionable technical moves.
Where Meaw distinguishes itself from competitors like iZotope's AI mastering or LANDR is its emphasis on workflow integration and dialogue-based iteration rather than automated processing. However, the subjective nature of AI-driven advice means results will vary considerably depending on implementation quality and whether the model's suggestions align with individual production aesthetics.
