About this plugin
XLN Audio's DB-30 Drum Butter is a surgical multiband compression and saturation tool designed specifically for drum processing. The plugin divides the incoming signal into three frequency-locked bands, each with independent compression and harmonic distortion controls, allowing engineers to shape individual frequency regions without the phase artifacts that plague traditional multiband compressors.
The sonic character leans toward transparent enhancement rather than aggressive coloration. The saturation circuit adds subtle harmonic density that can tighten transients and increase perceived punch without obvious distortion artifacts. Compression behaves predictably across the frequency spectrum, making it suitable for both parallel and serial processing chains.

DB-30 works exceptionally well on drum buses and individual drum tracks where frequency-specific control is critical. The interface prioritizes intuitive workflow, with clear visual feedback on gain reduction and saturation intensity. Among comparable multiband tools, it distinguishes itself through straightforward operation and a sonic palette that enhances rather than dominates source material.
Experienced producers and mix engineers will find DB-30 particularly valuable for controlling resonances in kickdrums and toms while maintaining natural dynamics in upper frequency ranges. It represents a practical approach to multiband processing for rhythmic material.
