About this plugin
Eventide's Precision Time Align addresses a fundamental challenge in professional recording: the phase complications that arise when capturing instruments with multiple microphones. Whether stacking vocal takes, combining kick drum mics, or blending guitar cabinet recordings, timing misalignments - even at the sample level - introduce comb filtering artifacts that hollow out tone and muddy low-frequency response.
The plugin operates at 1/64th sample resolution, providing microsecond-level precision that exceeds the capabilities of most DAW native delay compensation. This 64x improvement over standard sample-based editing translates directly to cleaner phase relationships and more cohesive blending between tracks. The interface pairs intuitive coarse and fine controls with a phase invert button, allowing engineers to quickly determine whether polarity reversal improves alignment.

What distinguishes Precision Time Align from basic delay plugins is its calibration methodology. Four different matching algorithms let you lock signals to reference tracks with genuine accuracy rather than guesswork. Critically, the plugin supports negative delays - shifting tracks earlier in time - which many DAWs handle poorly or not at all. This flexibility proves essential when managing multiple microphone setups where the "primary" mic may not arrive first.
The included Precision Time Delay variant addresses DAWs with inadequate delay compensation, extending the plugin's utility across various production environments.
For mixing engineers regularly working with multi-miked drums, orchestral sessions, or layered vocal productions, Precision Time Align represents a significant workflow efficiency. It replaces hours of manual alignment with surgical precision, making it an essential utility for anyone prioritizing phase coherence in dense mixes.
