About this plugin
Submarine is Waves' subharmonic synthesis plugin, designed to augment bass content by generating additional low-frequency material below the existing fundamental. Using the company's Organic ReSynthesis engine, the plugin analyzes incoming audio and synthesizes subharmonics one and two octaves lower, offering a non-destructive alternative to traditional EQ-based enhancement methods. The approach yields notably cleaner results than conventional subharmonic generators, maintaining clarity even at high volumes on large systems where phase interaction and rumble typically become problematic.
The plugin functions across individual tracks, submixes, and master buses, making it flexible for targeted enhancement or broadband low-end reinforcement. A frequency range control allows operators to isolate which source material gets processed, useful for preventing sub-bass generation from mid-range content. The Drive parameter introduces even-order harmonics for additional saturation and presence, while the Dynamics section provides compression to tame unpredictable low-frequency peaks.

Submarine finds its primary application in electronic music production, hip-hop, and club-oriented genres where augmented sub-bass serves both aesthetic and technical purposes. The plugin proves especially valuable when mixing on untreated or small monitoring systems, where adding synthetic low end can reveal mix decisions that smaller speakers would otherwise obscure. Its clean sonic character distinguishes it from competitor tools that often introduce coloration or digital artifacts.
While not essential for all mixing scenarios, Submarine occupies a specific niche where subharmonic synthesis is genuinely beneficial rather than decorative. The Organic ReSynthesis technology delivers on its promise of artifact-free extension, making it a legitimate consideration for engineers serious about low-frequency control.
