About this plugin
Waves' C6 represents a mature approach to multiband dynamics processing, combining six frequency-separated compression channels with genuine utility for surgical mixing work. The architecture splits into four fixed crossover points plus two floating bands, allowing independent control of compression ratio, threshold, attack, and release across the spectrum. This granular frequency separation proves invaluable when addressing masking issues in dense mixes or correcting problematic resonances without reaching for EQ alone.
The plugin's real strength lies in its versatility. Beyond standard compression, each band accommodates expansion, upward expansion, and limiting, with sidechain filtering that adds another layer of control. The internal sidechain can trigger from external sources, enabling creative ducking effects or tight synchronization to parallel material. Three release modes - smooth, fast, and automatic - handle different musical contexts without requiring constant tweaking.

Sonically, Waves' analog modeling delivers warmth that distinguishes this from clinical multiband processors. The compressors avoid the obvious digital artifacts that plague cheaper alternatives, though purists may debate whether the character substantially impacts daily mixing decisions.
The C6 occupies middle ground in the competitive multiband landscape. It lacks the transparent precision of FabFilter Pro-MB but undercuts in price while offering comparable feature depth. Compared to older generation tools, the preset library from established engineers provides genuine starting points rather than marketing afterthoughts.
Best suited for mastering engineers, heavy music producers, and detail-oriented mixing professionals, the C6 handles individual track surgery or master bus refinement with equal competence. Its learning curve is moderate for experienced users familiar with multiband workflows.
