About this plugin
The C4 represents a pragmatic approach to multiband dynamics processing that has maintained relevance across two decades of production workflows. Rather than imposing a fixed signal flow, it allows you to configure each of its four frequency bands independently with compression, expansion, limiting, or dynamic EQ, then seamlessly bypass dynamics processing on any band to use it as a traditional four-band parametric EQ.
This flexibility distinguishes it from more rigid multiband processors. You might compress low-end mud, expand midrange presence, limit aggressive high frequencies, and apply dynamic EQ to a problem range - all within a single instance. The Range control deserves particular attention; it constrains gain riding to boundaries you define, preventing over-correction and maintaining musical coherence across band interactions.

The processor excels at surgical mixing tasks where conventional single-band compression proves insufficient. Vocal tracks benefit from independent control of proximity bass, sibilance harshness, and presence peaks. Drums respond well to targeted dynamics that preserve transients in critical ranges while controlling resonances. Mix bus applications work effectively, though the C4 operates transparently rather than imparting sonic character.
The Auto-Release feature adapts release times dynamically, while manual release options provide predictable behavior for technical mixing. Master controls facilitate cohesive adjustments across all bands without sacrificing individual band precision.
The C4 remains essential for engineers tackling complex tonal problems and dense mixes where broadband compression introduces unwanted side effects. It's not a character tool - it's an analytical instrument for those who prioritize surgical accuracy over sonic coloration.
