About this plugin
Nocturne Electric Piano captures the distinctive character of a rare mid-70s Hohner Model M, an instrument that occupied a sonic middle ground between classic Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer designs. Rather than attempting a generic electric piano emulation, Sonora Cinematic deep-sampled the specific tonal and mechanical qualities of this particular unit, resulting in a plugin with genuine personality and vintage authenticity.
The architecture reveals thoughtful design choices. Four discrete signal paths - DI output, guitar amp coloration, mechanical noise capture, and tape echo reverb - provide genuine creative flexibility without overwhelming the interface. The DI delivers clean fundamentals suitable for layering, while the amp channel adds organic saturation and presence. The mechanical layer captures key and tine noise in stereo, restoring tactile dimensionality often absent in digital pianos. The tape echo reverb, sourced from actual vintage hardware with degraded cartridge characteristics, delivers that essential nostalgic wash without requiring external processing.

The Double Track feature deserves specific mention. By deploying different round robins across left and right channels, it generates organic stereo imaging that compensates for the mechanical consistency of sampling. This approach acknowledges how real electric pianos exhibit subtle performance variation.
Nocturne suits composers working in cinematic, ambient, and art pop contexts where vintage character matters as much as tonal purity. For producers seeking an electric piano with genuine historical specificity rather than generic polish, this delivers. Its straightforward signal architecture appeals to experienced engineers comfortable with source material that demands intentional mixing rather than plug-and-play convenience.
