About this plugin
The Sonnox Essential Collection delivers professional-grade mixing tools rooted in decades of analog console design. At its core lies the Oxford EQ, an algorithm derived directly from the Sony OXF-R3 large-format console's EQ section. This five-band parametric equalizer distinguishes itself through four selectable curve types, each optimized for different mixing scenarios, alongside variable high-pass and low-pass filters capable of 36dB/octave slopes. The implementation prioritizes transparency while offering sufficient character to shape sources meaningfully without coloration.
The Oxford Dynamics complement the EQ with independent compress, limit, expand, and gate functions, again modeled on the OXF-R3 architecture. Its feed-forward design with logarithmic side-chain processing and look-ahead detection yields responsive yet musical dynamic control suitable for everything from transparent mastering work to assertive creative compression.

Both plugins employ 64-bit processing with minimal noise and distortion, maintaining the sonic integrity expected in professional workflows. The inclusion of A/B comparison switches and full automation support addresses practical mixing demands.
This collection suits mixing and mastering engineers seeking transparent tools with genuine sonic character. The OXF-R3 lineage carries significant weight in professional audio circles, and these plugins deliver comparable sonic performance without requiring hardware space or investment. While not replacements for specialized tools like multiband compression or parallel processing chains, they represent essential baseline processing with enough flexibility to handle the majority of mixing tasks. The Essential Collection remains a solid choice for engineers valuing proven designs over trend-chasing features.
