About this plugin
true:level is a specialized metering plugin that addresses a fundamental challenge in audio production: the relationship between loudness and dynamics. Rather than treating these as separate concerns, sonible's approach visualizes their interaction in real time, revealing how aggressive limiting or compression affects overall loudness perception and dynamic range.
The plugin delivers essential metering functions including true peak analysis, integrated loudness measurement (LUFS), and dynamic range calculation. What distinguishes true:level is its reference system. Beyond generic loudness targets for streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, the tool allows you to upload custom reference tracks, enabling direct A/B comparison against your own mixes. This practical approach cuts through the guesswork often involved in finalizing masters for different delivery specifications.

The Level Check feature provides actionable text-based guidance after analysis, suggesting specific adjustments needed to match your chosen reference. Histograms showing loudness and dynamics distribution over time help identify problematic sections that might cause loudness normalization issues across platforms.
true:level is best suited for mastering engineers, mixing professionals, and serious independent producers who need confidence that their final mixes will translate consistently across playback systems and streaming services. It's particularly valuable for those working across multiple genres, where dynamics expectations vary significantly. While not a replacement for critical listening and acoustic treatment, it functions as an objective second opinion that catches problems before publishing. The plugin represents a mature understanding of loudness standards in the streaming era, making it a solid addition to professional mastering chains.
