About this plugin
X-Click addresses a persistent problem in audio restoration: removing clicks and pops without introducing phase artifacts or dulling transients. The plugin combines transient detection with surgical attenuation, targeting impulses while preserving the harmonic integrity of surrounding audio. It handles both analog-sourced clicks (vinyl noise, switching artifacts) and digital glitches (sample rate mismatches, bit errors) through a single interface.
The technical approach centers on shape selection and threshold control. Users can dial in the exact transient profile they're targeting - whether a narrow digital click or the wider envelope of vinyl pops - then visually confirm results on the waveform display, which highlights detected clicks in red. This real-time feedback accelerates the tuning process considerably. For sticky problems, X-Click supports parallel processing: record clicks to an isolated track, then flip phase and blend back into the mix for increased reduction without introducing cancellation artifacts.

X-Click occupies a practical middle ground in click removal tools. It's more transparent than aggressive broadband de-clicking but requires more intentional parameter adjustment than fully automatic solutions. The learning curve is shallow for experienced engineers, though novices may initially struggle with threshold sensitivity.
The plugin proves indispensable for vinyl restoration work, spoken word cleanup, and field recording salvage. It remains an industry standard for mastering engineers and restoration specialists, valued for its combination of surgical control and artifact-free operation. The visual feedback distinguishes it from competing tools, making it particularly useful in critical listening environments where clicks must be verified aurally.
