About this plugin
smart:reverb 2 is sonible's second generation content-aware reverb plugin, built on the premise that reverb should adapt to source material rather than impose a fixed signature. The plugin analyzes incoming audio and generates a reverb response calibrated to the sonic texture and dynamics of what's being processed, which means a vocal, drum kit, and synth pad will each receive algorithmically tailored treatment without manual preset hunting.
The plugin's most distinctive feature is its inter-plugin communication system, which allows multiple instances across a mix to operate within a shared acoustic space. This fundamentally changes how depth staging works in multitrack sessions - rather than individually tuning each reverb instance, you're positioning sources within a coherent environment. A Group Mode function streamlines this further for synchronized processing across related tracks.

Sonible has abandoned conventional technical parameters like decay time and pre-delay in favor of perception-based controls: Distance, Size, Width, Color, and Clarity. This approach lets engineers make decisions musically rather than wrestling with algorithmic internals. The reverb matrix organizes four core styles - room, hall, spring, and plate - into a browsable continuum, providing sonic flexibility without overwhelming choice.
The processing architecture has been substantially refined from the original version, with improved algorithms delivering cleaner, more controllable results. For mix engineers working with dense arrangements where traditional reverb tends to cloud clarity, or for producers seeking adaptive processing that respects source characteristics, smart:reverb 2 represents a genuine step forward in how reverb can function as an intelligent tool rather than a static effect.
