About this plugin
The LX480 Dual-Engine Reverb V4 represents Relab's most comprehensive interpretation of the Lexicon 480L, the venerable hardware reverberator that shaped professional mixing for decades. Unlike competing software recreations that emulate a single signal path, the LX480 deploys two fully independent algorithmic engines, allowing you to layer complementary reverb characteristics or run parallel chains with discrete parameter control. This dual-engine architecture distinguishes it from conventional reverb plugins and opens genuine creative possibilities beyond simple preset selection.
The plugin includes faithful recreations of the original hardware's core algorithms - Hall, Room, Plate, and Ambiance - alongside more esoteric modes like Panorama and Random Hall. A modern 32-bit HD algorithm complements the vintage offerings, providing contemporary sound-shaping tools without sacrificing the characteristic warmth and dimensional depth that made the hardware legendary. Cross-feedback twin delays, integrated chorus, and adjustable stereo width controls expand the sonic palette considerably.

The LX480 is specifically suited for engineers and producers who approach reverb as an integral mixing element rather than a simple ambience processor. Its appeal extends across genres where articulate, controllable reverb tails matter - from jazz and classical recording to film scoring and contemporary pop where spatial precision is paramount. The dual-engine capability particularly benefits complex mixes requiring multiple reverb characters without CPU-prohibitive plugin instances.
While the Relab plugin doesn't claim perfect hardware equivalence - no software truly achieves that - its combination of sonic authenticity, workflow flexibility, and modern technical implementation makes it the most practical digital approximation of the 480L available today.
