About this plugin
The SP2016 Reverb plugin brings Eventide's legendary 1982 hardware processor into the modern DAW environment with remarkable fidelity. As the first programmable studio reverb to introduce the concept of swappable plug-in cards, the original SP2016 shaped the sound of countless hit records across pop, hip-hop, and rock through its exceptionally natural and characterful algorithms. This plugin captures that legacy while adding modern flexibility.
The plugin offers six reverb algorithms across three core types: Room, Stereo Room, and High-Density Plate, each available in Vintage and Modern versions. The Vintage algorithms replicate the original hardware's sonic character down to its bit-depth limitations, while Modern variants employ higher resolution processing with increased brightness and diffusion. This dual approach serves both purists seeking authentic vintage tone and engineers wanting enhanced clarity.

What distinguishes the SP2016 is its Position control - a single parameter that repositions the listener within the reverb space without altering decay time or other settings. This represents a genuinely useful alternative to traditional wet/dry mixing when seeking natural spatial placement.
The algorithms themselves demonstrate careful attention to physical modeling, generating complex early reflections and smooth tail decay that mirrors real acoustic environments rather than obvious digital processing. The Room algorithm's extended pre-delay range enables creative applications beyond traditional reverb, including convincing doubling and echo effects.
The SP2016 is essential for mixing engineers and producers prioritizing sonic authenticity and the smooth, warm character that defined 1980s and 1990s major label productions. It occupies a specific sonic territory - neither the lush plate aesthetics of classic Lexicon nor the clinical precision of modern convolution reverbs, but something distinctly its own.
