About this plugin
Sonible's pure:unmask addresses a genuine technical problem in modern mixing: the challenge of isolating and clarifying individual elements within dense arrangements without resorting to heavy-handed EQ or surgical cuts. The plugin employs spectral analysis to identify and suppress frequency masking between tracks, allowing buried vocal details or instrumental articulation to emerge with surgical precision.
The approach differs substantially from conventional dynamic EQ. Rather than operating on fixed frequency bands, pure:unmask analyzes the relationship between a target channel and a reference signal, then applies intelligently shaped cuts to remove only the problematic overlap. This results in a more transparent separation than traditional techniques while avoiding the phase artifacts and tonal coloration common with linear-phase processing.

Sonically, the plugin excels when managing problem areas where standard mixing techniques fall short - a kick drum obscuring bass guitar fundamentals, strings muddying lead vocal presence, or background vocals competing with main hooks. The interface wisely favors functional design over visual complexity, with straightforward controls for threshold, depth, and frequency smoothing. Processing remains musically coherent across adjustment ranges, avoiding the hyped or unnatural qualities that plague poorly-conceived spectral tools.
Pure:unmask occupies a narrow but essential niche between conventional mixing tools and more invasive spectral editing software. It's most valuable for professional mixing contexts where transparent frequency management matters more than creative transformation. This crossgrade pricing makes sense for producers already invested in Sonible's ecosystem or contemplating their plugin collection strategically.
