About this plugin
Softube's Fix Flanger and Doubler plugin set resurrects Paul Wolff's 1979 hardware vision with careful digital translation rather than slavish emulation. These tools address genuine workflow gaps in modern production by delivering hands-on control over effects that typically live at screen's distance.
The Fix Flanger operates across three distinct modes. Automatic sweep provides classic pedal-style flanging for rhythmic texture, while manual mode grants direct parameter control. The VSO (Voltage Stepped Oscillator) mode stands out, emulating tape machine behavior with servo motor bounce and true cross-zero flanging - characteristics difficult to achieve in software without thoughtful algorithm design. Tap tempo, stereo widening methods, and delay polarity selection round out a surprisingly deep feature set for a focused tool.

The Fix Doubler tackles a specific problem: natural vocal thickness without obvious digital artifacts. Rather than simple delay-based doubling, the algorithm employs phase cancellation techniques to create convincing thickness at delays as low as 3ms. This "Auto Double" approach generates genuine doubling character without flanging side effects, useful for sources where standard chorus effects introduce unwanted modulation.
Both plugins suit engineers seeking tactile engagement with classic effects. The Flanger appeals to players and mix engineers chasing tape-era character or bold creative effects on guitar and synth. The Doubler targets vocal mix engineers and producers prioritizing natural cohesion in doubling layers.
The implementation avoids unnecessary digital complexity while respecting the source material's analog lineage. These are working tools rather than novelties, positioned well for studios valuing sonic character alongside technical precision.
