About this plugin
Whirl is a barber-pole phaser that implements a Bode frequency shifter architecture with feedback, generating moving spectral peaks and notches that create an auditory illusion of endless upward or downward motion. Unlike conventional phasers that cycle predictably, Whirl's algorithm produces evolving sweep patterns where each cycle morphs seamlessly into the next, preventing the static quality typical of traditional phase shifter designs.
The plugin offers up to three sequential processing stages, each fully synchronized, allowing producers to dial in anything from subtle modulation to aggressive, resonant filtering that can isolate or suppress specific harmonic content. This multi-stage approach gives Whirl considerable range: subtle applications enhance vocal presence or add shimmer to pads, while extreme settings function almost as a frequency-selective filter with pronounced tonal coloration.

A key technical feature is the bipolar sweep frequency, enabling seamless transitions between upward and downward spectral motion without discontinuities. Variable stereo phase offset and lag-filtered parameters ensure smooth parameter changes without clicks or artifacts. The plugin handles mono-to-mono, mono-to-stereo, and stereo-to-stereo configurations.
Whirl occupies a distinct niche between textural effects and surgical frequency manipulation. It suits producers seeking organic, evolving modulation rather than metronomic movement, and engineers working with sparse arrangements where resonant filtering can carve character from individual sources. The interface follows Sinevibes' established design language with colour coding and GPU-accelerated rendering that preserves audio quality.
