The plugin operates dual delay lines with selectable feedback polarity, allowing one delay to advance or retard relative to the other. As these delays converge at zero milliseconds, the resulting phase interactions generate distinctive tonal transformations: positive feedback yields the characteristic jet-plane swoosh, while negative feedback creates dramatic spectral warping and potential phase cancellation.

The architecture supports flexible routing - mono to mono, mono to stereo, and stereo to stereo configurations. A built-in modulation generator with four waveform options (sine, triangle, square, sawtooth) drives the delay time modulation, with independent stereo phase offset control for widening effects. Tempo sync enables rhythmic flanging locked to host transport, while manual modulation control allows static positioning at specific delay times for exploring extreme feedback timbres.

Practical refinements distinguish Dipole from naive implementations. A low-cut filter prevents subsonic buildup during extreme parameter excursions, while automatic feedback self-levelling maintains stability across the full parameter range.
