About this plugin
Sampleson's Melox Pro addresses a long-standing gap in virtual instrument libraries: a studio-grade melodica capable of professional results. Built from multisampled recordings of a quality instrument, the plugin implements comprehensive scripting to capture the nuanced behavior of real melodica performance, including release velocity sensitivity, key noise, breath articulation, and mechanical resonance. The binaural recording mode adds spatial dimensionality that enhances realism in stereo mixes.
The instrument handles both solo and harmonic voicings effectively, with particular attention paid to tuning accuracy and transient response. Vibrato control via MIDI CC adds expressive capability beyond the basic samples, while selectable articulation layers allow users to dial in the prominence of environmental details - key clicks, air sounds, and release characteristics - or disable them entirely for cleaner sustained tones.

Melox Pro occupies modest system resources at approximately 250MB installed, with native 64-bit architecture and cross-platform compatibility. The standalone version provides immediate playback capability without DAW integration, while VST and AU options integrate seamlessly into existing workflows.
The plugin finds its strongest application in world music contexts, jazz arrangements, and documentary or film scoring where melodica authenticity matters. Electronic and experimental producers may appreciate it as a textural element rather than a replacement for acoustic recordings. Among virtual melodicas, it represents the only serious attempt at studio-quality sampling and scripting, making it a practical choice for producers seeking legitimate melodica sounds without resorting to field recording or hardware.
