About this plugin
Safari Audio's Hawk Phaser stands out among contemporary phase shifters for its combination of surgical control and lush, dimensional character. The plugin processes audio through a cascade of all-pass filters whose resonant peaks and troughs sweep across the frequency spectrum, creating the classic phaser sound with more tonal agency than most competitors in this category.
The architecture distinguishes itself through thoughtful signal flow. An input drive stage preconditions the source before modulation, allowing you to dial in saturation that colors the effect rather than merely boosting level. The filter section acts as a crossover, constraining the phase effect to a specific frequency band - a feature that prevents the characteristic "whooshing" from consuming too much of the mix or obscuring critical tonal information. Width control manages the stereo image effectively, accommodating everything from tight, mono-compatible applications to expansive, immersive treatments.

Rate and depth controls respond predictably across the full range, while feedback adds harmonic complexity without destabilization. Auto gain compensation proves genuinely useful for maintaining consistent perceived level through modulation sweep cycles.
Hawk Phaser excels for guitarists seeking texture without losing definition, synthpop producers chasing atmospheric richness, and mixing engineers looking for subtle movement on rhythm sections or vocal layers. Compared to hardware classics it emulates, the plugin offers modern workflow efficiency and recall reliability. It avoids the sonic gimmickry that undermines many boutique phasers, instead delivering versatile modulation that genuinely improves recordings across genres.
