About this plugin
iZotope's RX 12 Standard represents a significant advancement in the audio restoration toolkit that has become industry standard across post-production, music production, and podcast engineering. This update builds on decades of refinement, introducing expanded machine learning capabilities that improve upon the core restoration modules users have relied on since earlier iterations.
The plugin architecture remains focused on surgical precision rather than sonic coloration. RX 12 Standard maintains the characteristic transparency of its predecessors while adding intelligent processing layers that can identify and address specific problems - sibilance correction, dialogue cleanup, background noise reduction - with minimal user intervention. The Repair Assistant feature has been enhanced to deliver faster results for common restoration tasks, appealing to engineers working under deadline pressure without sacrificing quality.

For users upgrading from RX 1-9 Standard, the improvements justify consideration. Enhanced noise profiling, refined spectral editing tools, and more effective machine learning models address the legitimate criticisms that earlier versions sometimes required excessive manual refinement. The balance between automated and manual control remains RX's defining characteristic - a strength when compared to competitors that lean too heavily toward either direction.
RX 12 Standard is genuinely essential for dialogue editing, location sound cleanup, and salvage operations on compromised recordings. It remains the technical reference standard in professional audio restoration, though users should recognize that even advanced tools cannot recover information that was never captured. The update refines an already mature product rather than fundamentally reimagining it.
