About this plugin
iZotope's RX 12 Standard represents the accessible tier of the industry's most comprehensive audio restoration ecosystem. Designed for professionals who need reliable dialogue cleanup, background noise reduction, and spectral editing without the advanced modules found in the Advanced version, this crossgrade option makes it an economical entry point for iZotope loyalists.
The plugin's core strength lies in its spectral editing approach, which visualizes audio as a three-dimensional frequency map. This visual representation transforms abstract mixing problems into tangible targets. The Repair Assistant uses machine learning to identify and flag problematic content, letting you approve fixes rather than build chains from scratch. For post-production workflows specifically, this workflow acceleration matters considerably.

Standard includes essential modules: the Noise Reduction tool handles consistent background hum and rumble effectively, while the De-esser targets sibilance with surgical precision. The Mouth De-Clicker and De-Crackler address common dialogue issues. Spectral Repair handles isolated clicks or wind noise. While lacking the Intonation and Voice modules found in Advanced, Standard covers the majority of day-to-day problems in film and television post-production.
This crossgrade sits ideally between hobbyist tools and professional-grade software. It's best suited for dialogue editors, podcast producers, and music engineers working with compromised source material. Among comparable tools, RX remains the fastest path from problematic audio to broadcast-ready sound, backed by decades of real-world film and music production use. The crossgrade pricing acknowledges that serious audio professionals often maintain multiple iZotope licenses.
