About this plugin
RX 12 Standard represents iZotope's entry-level offering into professional audio restoration, delivering the core restoration toolkit without the advanced machine learning modules found in higher tiers. The plugin handles essential tasks with surgical precision: dialogue cleanup, background noise reduction, click and crackle removal, and spectral editing via a streamlined interface. For most post-production and music restoration work, this proves sufficient.
The technical approach relies on traditional FFT-based spectral analysis rather than the AI-driven modules of RX Advanced or Elements' simplified automation. This means you maintain granular control over corrections, which experienced engineers often prefer when working with nuanced material where aggressive algorithms might compromise fidelity. The Spectral Repair tool remains highly effective for targeted fixes, and the De-Esser handles sibilance without the learning curve of adaptive systems.

Standard suits dialogue editors working in film and television, mastering engineers addressing archive recordings, and producers tackling suboptimal recordings without access to re-recording sessions. It's the practical choice for professionals who understand spectral editing fundamentals and don't require batch processing or the Repair Assistant's AI convenience features.
Compared to Waves X-Noise or Blue Cat's PinPoint, RX Standard trades real-time responsiveness for more transparent results on complex material. It remains the industry standard in post-production environments, though the gap between Standard and competing tools has narrowed. For straightforward restoration tasks in professional workflows, it remains a reliable workhorse.
