About this plugin
PSP Audioware's L'otary 2 is a convolution-based spatial processor that models the acoustic properties of electromechanical Leslie speaker cabinets. Unlike algorithmic rotary simulators, L'otary 2 uses impulse responses captured from actual hardware, delivering the characteristic frequency modulation, doppler shift, and mechanical coloration that define the Leslie sound. The plugin excels at capturing both the subtle wobble of slow rotation and the aggressive, swirling intensity of fast speeds, with independent control over horn and woofer rotation rates for authentic tonal separation.
The processor's technical approach yields a sonic character that sits between clinical accuracy and musical usability. While convolution-based designs inherently introduce some latency, L'otary 2 manages this responsibly for real-time performance. The implementation preserves the slightly compressed, colored midrange characteristic of Leslie cabinets, making it useful far beyond organ and keys applications - many engineers employ it on vocals, guitar buses, and drums for its lush, organic modulation quality.

L'otary 2 serves serious keyboardists, vintage-focused producers, and mix engineers seeking authentic rotary speaker emulation without hardware footprint or maintenance. It competes effectively with Native Instruments B4 II and Arturia's Mellotron V in terms of Leslie modeling accuracy, though its convolution approach offers marginally superior transient fidelity. The plugin's relatively modest CPU footprint and straightforward interface make it accessible, while its dependable sound ensures it functions equally well as a primary tool or secondary enhancement layer on any rotary-heavy session.
