About this plugin
KNOCK Clipper is a surgical hard/soft clipper derived from the clipping module in DECAP's full KNOCK plugin, engineered specifically for aggressive drum processing without digital distortion artifacts. The plugin allows real-time adjustment between hard and soft clipping curves, accommodating everything from transparent peak limiting to intentional harmonic saturation that mimics analog tape compression pushed into the red zone.
The core strength of KNOCK Clipper lies in its transparent architecture. Unlike soft clippers that introduce phase shift or hard clippers that produce brittle harmonics, this tool maintains signal integrity while adding controlled aggression. The adjustable clipping curve responds differently depending on your material and intent - harder settings introduce snappier transients and more pronounced harmonic coloration, while softer curves preserve dynamics with gentler harmonic enhancement. The design prevents output from ever exceeding 0dB, making it a reliable safety mechanism for mastering chains or before high-impact processing.

High-quality mode engages oversampling to eliminate aliasing artifacts, particularly important when using harder clipping curves on transient-rich material. This becomes essential when processing snare drums or hi-hats with aggressive settings.
Best suited for drum and beat producers seeking vintage analog warmth without the instability of actual saturation hardware, KNOCK Clipper fills a specific niche between transparent limiting and intentional saturation. Its CPU efficiency means multiple instances across a drum bus cause minimal performance impact. Among comparable tools, it distinguishes itself through precise curve control and DECAP's production heritage, making it a practical choice for professionals demanding both transparency and character.
