About this plugin
AIR Soft Clipper is a transparent loudness maximizer built around soft clipping algorithms, designed to catch peaks while preserving the character of source material. Unlike brick-wall limiters that arrest transients abruptly, soft clipping introduces a gentle saturation curve that tames overs without the artifacts that plague digital clipping. The plugin excels at final-stage mix buss processing, where transparent gain management matters as much as sonic control.
The core feature set reflects practical mixing priorities. Drive adds progressive saturation before the clipping stage, allowing producers to shape tone intentionally rather than merely catching peaks. Three distortion curve options provide flexibility: from smooth, musical rolloff to more assertive clipping characteristics. The dedicated Release Time control separates this tool from static clippers, enabling faster settings for punchy material or longer curves for sustained sources. True-peak metering with anti-aliasing prevents digital artifacts that emerge when soft clipping operates near Nyquist frequencies, a critical consideration for broadcast and streaming delivery standards.

Advanced controls including stereo linking, mix blending, and independent output level calibration suggest professional mastering-grade precision. The real-time metering provides immediate feedback on gain reduction behavior, essential for understanding how aggressive the processing becomes.
This plugin finds its audience among hip-hop, R&B, and electronic producers who need predictable, musical loudness maximization without the clinical character of traditional limiters. It occupies middle ground between boutique saturation tools and clinical peak limiters, making it particularly valuable for mix engineers seeking controlled aggression rather than transparent safety.
