About this plugin
The SPL De-Esser Collection brings the refined sibilance control of SPL's renowned hardware into the plugin domain through two Analog Code emulations covering the brand's single and dual-band approaches. Rather than applying broad-spectrum compression to typical sibilant frequencies, SPL's Auto Dynamic De-Esser analyzes the entire frequency spectrum in real time, isolating the exact sibilant content with surgical precision. The detected frequencies are then phase-inverted and mixed back into the signal to cancel sibilance at the source, a technique that preserves vocal character even under aggressive reduction settings where traditional de-essers would introduce artifacts or tonal coloration.
The plugin includes Male and Female algorithm selections, accounting for the different sibilant characteristics across vocal types, while an Auto-Threshold function adapts to performers moving off and on-axis during recording, eliminating the need for constant parameter adjustment. The addition of M/S stereo processing expands utility beyond vocal tracking into mix and mastering contexts, allowing transparent de-essing of full mixes without compromising the high-frequency content of drums, cymbals, or stereo instruments.

The SPL De-Esser Collection stands apart from competing tools through its combination of technical sophistication and practical simplicity. Engineers accustomed to hardware de-essers will recognize the sonic signature immediately; those transitioning from stock or more aggressive plugin alternatives will appreciate the transparent control and absence of the lisping or nasal byproducts common to frequency-specific compression. This collection is essential for mixing engineers prioritizing vocal clarity and mastering specialists requiring subtle, transparent sibilance management across full mixes.
