About this plugin
MasterCheck 2 Upgrade represents a meaningful refinement to NUGEN Audio's cross-platform mastering reference tool, building on the foundation established by the original MasterCheck. This plugin addresses a critical workflow gap: ensuring that masters translate consistently across the fragmented modern listening ecosystem, from hi-fi systems through streaming platforms that apply loudness normalization and codec-specific compression.
The core functionality remains focused and purposeful. MasterCheck combines loudness metering compliant with industry standards alongside codec preview capability, allowing engineers to audition how tracks will sound when subjected to Spotify's normalization, Apple Music's processing, or YouTube's compression pipeline. The True Peak analysis helps prevent digital clipping, while metrics like Integrated loudness and PLR provide actionable data for optimization decisions. Rather than treating mastering as a fixed endpoint, MasterCheck positions it as an iterative process of compensation and balance.

The plugin serves both mastering engineers and mix engineers who recognize that over-compressed mixing limits headroom for subsequent processing. Its support for immersive formats up to 7.1.4 acknowledges contemporary production realities, though most users will focus on the stereo workflow.
Among similar tools, MasterCheck occupies a practical middle ground. It prioritizes usability and platform-specific accuracy over extensive metering options, making it most valuable for engineers who want targeted insight into loudness normalization effects rather than comprehensive analysis. The resizable interface suits modern DAW layouts where screen real estate remains contested.
For studios serious about consistent streaming deliverables, MasterCheck 2 Upgrade provides legitimate workflow value.
