About this plugin
NUGEN Audio's Aligner addresses one of the most persistent technical challenges in multi-mic recording: automatic phase and polarity correction. When capturing a single source with multiple microphones, distance variations and placement differences inevitably create phase offset between tracks. While sometimes subtle, this misalignment typically manifests as a loss of cohesion and presence in the mix, with the combined signal sounding hollow or dynamically compromised compared to the individual tracks.
Aligner operates on a straightforward technical principle - it analyzes the phase relationship between selected tracks and automatically applies the necessary time alignment and polarity inversion to achieve coherence. The plugin's speed is its primary advantage; what might consume ten to fifteen minutes of manual adjustment through traditional delay and phase manipulation becomes a single-click operation. The algorithm proves particularly effective on close-mic techniques for drums, guitar cabinets, and vocal stacking scenarios where phase issues are most pronounced.

The tool's sonic character is essentially transparent. It doesn't color tone or introduce artifacts, functioning purely as a corrective element. This neutrality makes it equally valuable across genre and source material. Aligner suits tracking engineers who regularly work with multi-mic setups, mix engineers cleaning up existing recordings, and live sound professionals managing phase-critical reinforcement systems.
Among similar tools, Aligner distinguishes itself through accuracy and workflow efficiency rather than novel processing. It represents a pragmatic solution to a fundamental mixing problem, earning its place as a utility plugin that consistently justifies its presence in professional DAWs.
