About this plugin
The Perception AB upgrade transforms MeterPlugs' foundational A/B testing plugin into a purpose-built tool for informed mixing and mastering decisions. Where the original Perception established the concept of level-matched comparison, this iteration refines the workflow specifically for professional production contexts.
The core function remains elegant: insert instances before and after a processing chain, engage level matching, and toggle between states with full delay compensation intact. This addresses a fundamental mixing problem - the tendency to perceive louder sources as "better" regardless of actual sonic improvement. By automatically matching loudness levels during comparison, Perception AB isolates genuine tonal changes from perception bias, allowing engineers to evaluate EQ, compression, reverb, and saturation with clarity.

What distinguishes this upgrade is its optimized architecture for modern mixing. Plugin delay compensation now handles complex chains without phase artifacts. The interface integrates seamlessly into both mixing and mastering workflows, whether comparing individual channel processing or entire bus chains. This proves particularly valuable when evaluating external analog gear by comparing the pre-insert and post-insert points of your DAW, effectively A/B testing hardware without leaving the box.
The upgrade targets experienced engineers who recognize that loudness deception undermines critical listening - a skill traditionally requiring years to develop. Rather than relying on trained ear alone, Perception AB democratizes reliable decision-making through technical precision.
Among A/B comparison tools, it occupies a unique position: not a metering plugin or loudness analyzer, but a listening aid that makes the physics of perception audible. For mixing and mastering professionals, this distinction proves invaluable.
