About this plugin
Perception AB addresses a fundamental problem in mixing and mastering: the inability to trust your ears when loudness variables are in play. The plugin implements automatic level-matching across A/B comparisons, eliminating the cognitive bias that makes louder sources sound better regardless of actual sonic improvement. This is essential because mixing decisions made without matched levels often collapse under real-world playback conditions.
The workflow requires inserting Perception AB at two points in your signal chain - before and after your processing - then engaging the level-matching function. The plugin compensates for latency introduced by your effects, allowing instantaneous switching between unprocessed and processed audio at identical loudness. This means you're evaluating actual sonic changes rather than perceived loudness increases from compression, limiting, or EQ.

The technical implementation uses integrated loudness metering based on perceptual standards, automatically adjusting output level to match input across both instances. The delay compensation handles even complex plugin chains and external hardware integration, making it practical for both mixing individual tracks and comparing full mixes against reference material.
Perception AB serves mixing engineers evaluating whether a chain of processing genuinely improves a mix, and mastering engineers validating mastering chain decisions. It's particularly valuable when working at inconsistent monitoring levels or comparing against streaming references. While similar functionality exists in some DAWs and competing plugins, Perception AB's dedicated focus and transparent operation make it the most reliable approach for the specific task of level-matched comparison. For engineers serious about making defensible mixing and mastering decisions, this plugin eliminates guesswork from a critical part of the workflow.
