About this plugin
MeterPlugs' LCAST Surround addresses a genuine gap in the loudness metering landscape: accurate, standards-compliant measurement for immersive audio formats. While stereo loudness metering has become commonplace in mastering workflows, surround and immersive content production has lacked equally transparent tools for meeting broadcast specifications across multiple channels.
LCAST Surround implements true-peak metering alongside loudness measurement using ITU BS.1770-4 algorithms, with preset configurations for ATSC A/85, EBU R128, and other international standards. The interface displays both integrated and short-term loudness values alongside numerical readouts, eliminating guesswork during critical mastering decisions. The zoom feature allows detailed inspection of transient behavior and intersample peaks - particularly useful when preparing stems for streaming services that apply loudness normalization.

The plugin's strength lies in its uncluttered design and quick preset switching. Engineers working across broadcast, theatrical, and streaming deliverables can instantly recalibrate measurements without diving into technical specifications. This efficiency matters in professional workflows where multiple format deliverables demand verification against different loudness targets.
LCAST Surround is essential for mastering engineers handling Dolby Atmos, 7.1.4, or other immersive configurations. It's equally valuable for post-production facilities managing television and film sound where surround channel loudness balance directly impacts perceived translation across different playback systems. While specialized surround metering tools exist, few combine accuracy, accessibility, and cross-platform compatibility as effectively as this plugin delivers.
