About this plugin
The EQ2V from Mellowmuse approaches equalization through the lens of analog hardware, delivering not just tonal adjustment but harmonic coloration that deepens with both input and boost levels. This character-driven design distinguishes it from clinical digital EQs, making it particularly effective on sources requiring sonic weight rather than surgical precision.
The plugin's architecture centers on three shelving bands - low (35Hz to 300Hz), mid (300Hz to 8kHz), and high (8kHz to 16kHz) - complemented by a high pass filter extending down to DC. This configuration suits broad tonal shaping across sources like drums, bass, and full mixes. The inclusion of per-band bypass functionality allows A/B comparison without plugin recall adjustments.

The SofTran transient softener addresses a real problem in mix engineering: excessive high-frequency peaks from snare and hi-hat after boost. Rather than relying solely on compression, this dedicated feature tames percussive aggression while preserving articulation. Combined with the high shelf boost, it offers practical control over brightness without brittleness.
Four times oversampling with 64-bit internal processing ensures the saturation algorithms maintain clarity rather than introducing aliasing artifacts. This technical foundation justifies the harmonic character without audible distortion artifacts.
The EQ2V occupies a practical middle ground - more colorful than transparent EQs, more intuitive than complex parametric designs. It appeals to engineers seeking vintage warmth without deep diving into frequency specifics, and to mixing professionals who value cohesive harmonic enhancement across project elements. Among vintage-style EQ plugins, its transient control sets it apart functionally.
