About this plugin
EXPOSE 2 is a standalone audio analysis application designed to catch mastering and mixing defects before distribution. Unlike traditional metering tools, it combines spectral analysis, loudness measurement, and comparative reference functionality into a single workflow optimized for pre-release quality control.
The application identifies common issues systematically: excessive peak levels, true peak violations, phase coherence problems, compression artifacts, and tonal imbalances. Rather than presenting raw data, EXPOSE 2 contextualizes measurements against distribution-specific targets - separate presets account for streaming normalization (Spotify, Apple Music), broadcast standards, club sound systems, and physical media requirements. This precision matters because loudness targets and acceptable headroom vary significantly across platforms.

The reference comparison feature operates as its primary strength. Users can load commercial reference tracks to benchmark their own mixes against established sonic profiles, or select from genre-specific presets derived from commercially successful releases. This approach addresses a real problem in modern production: the difficulty of maintaining consistent tonal balance across monitoring environments and translating mixes effectively to consumer playback systems.
EXPOSE 2 works best as a final checkpoint before mastering or distribution, particularly for independent artists and smaller labels lacking access to professional mastering facilities. Experienced mix engineers will find its preset-based approach somewhat limiting compared to comprehensive loudness metering plugins, but the contextual feedback and reference comparison workflow delivers practical value for mix validation. It functions as a specialized quality gate rather than a replacement for traditional metering tools.
