About this plugin
IK Multimedia's metering suite represents a comprehensive approach to mix analysis, consolidating the essential measurement tools that professional mastering engineers and serious producers rely on daily. Rather than offering superficial visualizations, the plugin delivers genuine technical insight into your mix's fundamental characteristics.
The core toolkit addresses the metrics that matter: Peak and RMS metering establish your dynamic ceiling while simultaneously revealing crest factor - that critical relationship between transient peaks and average loudness that determines how much headroom you truly possess. The dynamic range meter quantifies compression decisions objectively, helping you calibrate whether your mix needs additional glue or benefits from retained dynamics.

For frequency-domain work, the real-time analyzer and spectrogram provide reliable visual feedback on spectral balance, while the phase correlation meter catches the subtle mono-incompatibilities that still plague many digital mixes. The mid-side metering specifically addresses stereo image management, allowing you to measure the energy relationship between mono and stereo content rather than guessing at width subjectively.
The inclusion of both VU and PPM meters with adjustable ballistics acknowledges that different metering standards serve different purposes - VU meters track perceived loudness through averaging, while PPM responds faster to transient threats. This flexibility accommodates both classical analog-style mixing sensibilities and modern peak-aware mastering workflows.
T-RackS 6's metering suite functions as a transparent window into your mix's technical reality. It's essential for mastering engineers chasing broadcast compliance and digital delivery standards, but equally valuable for mixing engineers seeking objective confirmation of their subjective mixing decisions. This is credible measurement tooling without pretense.
