About this plugin
Sub Cut is a surgical high-pass filter designed specifically for managing problematic sub-bass energy below 220Hz. Unlike general-purpose parametric equalizers, this plugin from Iceberg Audio employs filters calibrated exclusively for low-frequency work, delivering cuts that maintain musicality while removing muddiness or competing fundamental frequencies in dense mixes.
The plugin's primary strength lies in its AUTO mode, which continuously analyzes incoming audio and tracks the fundamental frequency of your source material. This adaptive approach automatically adjusts the cutoff point to maximize low-frequency removal while preserving the harmonic character of the material above the filter's threshold. Three response modes - Fast, Default, and Slow - allow you to match the tracking speed to your source's dynamic behavior, whether you're working with stable bass lines or complex vocal content.

Sub Cut offers three selectable roll-off curves, each engineered to produce smooth attenuation without introducing artifacts or coloration. A note-based cutoff selection system lets you specify precise points - G2, for example - ensuring the filter respects the musical tonality of your material.
The visual waveform interface with real-time test tone access streamlines critical listening and decision-making, particularly useful when isolating frequency problem areas in tracking or mastering contexts. This tool appeals most to mix engineers managing layered bass arrangements, mastering specialists addressing low-frequency buildup, and producers working in rooms with acoustic deficiencies. While not a replacement for full-spectrum EQ work, Sub Cut's focused approach delivers efficiency and consistency in a narrow, high-impact frequency range.
