About this plugin
ASCEND: Modern Grand represents Heavyocity's most ambitious foray into acoustic piano sampling, delivering a meticulously captured 9-foot Steinway Concert D recorded at a professional NYC facility with collaboration from accomplished film score mixer Satoshi Noguchi. The instrument captures the piano across multiple articulation approaches - standard performance, prepared techniques including ebow, brushes, chains, and twine, alongside intimate pianissimo recordings that prioritize emotional nuance over projection.
What distinguishes ASCEND from conventional piano libraries is its proprietary engine architecture. Rather than serving as a straightforward sample playback tool, the instrument integrates a flexible three-point mixer accommodating layerable sources and effects, rhythmic convolution options, and a distinctive Echoes feature that introduces musical randomness to accompaniment patterns. This design philosophy positions ASCEND as both a performable instrument and a textural sound design platform, making it equally suited to traditional scoring and experimental composition.

The sonic character leans distinctly cinematic - warm and dimensional without excessive resonance, with prepared techniques adding textural variety for contemporary orchestral work. The recording quality prioritizes clarity across microphone perspectives, providing mixing flexibility rather than forcing users into predetermined spatial presentations.
ASCEND functions optimally for composers and producers seeking a premium acoustic piano with modern processing capabilities, particularly those favoring hybrid orchestration or seeking to extend beyond traditional concert grand limitations. While the price positions it as a premium offering, the combination of recording quality, prepared articulations, and sound design engine justifies consideration against competing high-end libraries. The Kontakt Player compatibility ensures broad accessibility without additional software requirements.
