About this plugin
Notes from Future Audio Workshop occupies an unusual space in the plugin ecosystem as a performance and composition instrument rather than a traditional effects processor. Built around intelligent chord recognition and real-time harmonic transformation, it functions as a creative catalyst for producers working through compositional uncertainty.
The core architecture centers on white and black key playback, where white keys trigger full chord voicings while black keys modulate them dynamically. This dual-key system enables expressive harmonic control without requiring advanced music theory knowledge. The Lab feature, which auto-detects chords from uploaded audio or MIDI files, distinguishes Notes from conventional chord plugins by functioning as a reverse-engineering tool for existing progressions.

The sound design draws from carefully selected analog hardware - Moog One synths, Prophet-10 bells, and sampled acoustic instruments - layered with digital processing. Five included sound packs span lo-fi textures, glitchy elements, and warm analog tones, each paired with pre-composed progressions performed by session musicians. Voicing styles like Dilla, Ghibli, and House allow tonal adjustment without editing individual notes, addressing the reality that voicing choice significantly impacts subjective harmonic character.
Notes works best for composers and producers experiencing ideation blocks rather than mix engineers seeking specialized processing. The learning curve favors intuitive exploration over deep parameter diving. Among similar tools, it distinguishes itself through genuine chord detection rather than simple playback systems, though users accustomed to traditional MIDI workflows may find the interface constraining. As an ideas-stage instrument that exports cleanly to DAWs, Notes delivers legitimate compositional acceleration for its intended use case.
