About this plugin
UltraTap represents Eventide's most versatile multi-tap delay plugin, transplanted directly from their flagship H9 hardware unit. The core engine functions as an advanced echo processor with up to 64 independently controllable tap points, each capable of modulation, level adjustment, and feedback manipulation. This architecture distinguishes it from conventional delay plugins by prioritizing rhythmic density and textural evolution over simple rhythmic repetition.
The plugin's primary strength lies in its real-time control paradigm, built around The Ribbon - a dual-state morphing system that enables seamless transitions between two distinct effect configurations. This proves particularly valuable for live performance within DAWs, allowing dynamic parameter sweeps without breaking musical flow. The accompanying HotSwitch function provides instantaneous alternate settings, expanding creative possibilities in both studio and live contexts.

Sonically, UltraTap excels at generating everything from crystalline rhythmic delays to diffuse, reverb-like textures. The Slurm control specifically addresses tap smearing and modulation, producing the glitchy, pad-like characteristics mentioned throughout Eventide's marketing. This makes it particularly effective for creating swelling pad effects, complex drum fills, and vocal treatments that evolve expressively over time.
The plugin inherits the substantial H9 preset library, including contributions from notable artists and electronic musicians. While competitors like Fabfilter Timeless 3 and Native Instruments Replika focus on spatial characteristics, UltraTap prioritizes temporal manipulation and rhythmic complexity. It's best suited for producers and engineers seeking sophisticated delay and reverb effects with granular control, particularly those working in electronic, experimental, or avant-garde contexts where unconventional sound design justifies the learning curve.
