About this plugin
Psyche Delay stands as Native Instruments' interpretation of psychedelic time-based processing, drawing inspiration from tape manipulation techniques that defined 1960s studio experimentation. The plugin delivers stereo delay with reverse functionality, allowing producers to generate the characteristic backwards effects that once required physical tape loops and manual reversal.
The core architecture centers on a dual-channel delay engine with independent control over left and right channels, enabling spatial depth and movement across the stereo field. The reverse mode inverts the delayed signal, producing the ethereal, otherworldly textures associated with backwards vocals and instrumentation. This dual approach - standard delay combined with reverse processing - gives users straightforward atmospheric ambience alongside more experimental sound design possibilities.

Sonically, Psyche Delay favors warmth and harmonic complexity over clinical precision. The character suits guitars, synthesizers, and vocals equally well, though its strength emerges in sources with melodic content where the delayed repetitions enhance rather than obscure the original signal. Integration with Native Instruments' broader ecosystem means seamless workflow within Komplete and compatible DAWs.
For experienced producers seeking period-authentic psychedelic textures without deep plugin menus, Psyche Delay offers straightforward operation. It occupies a defined niche among delay plugins - less about comprehensive modulation possibilities than capturing a specific aesthetic. Compared to general-purpose delays with reverse options, its focused design prioritizes immediate results and recognizable character over extensive customization. The plugin rewards experimentation with sources that benefit from spatial processing and vintage-inflected effects chains.
