About this plugin
The Pulsar Echorec is a meticulously modeled software recreation of the Binson Echorec 2, the magnetic disk delay that defined the spatial character of classic rock and progressive music. Unlike tape-based delays, the Echorec's unique magnetic field interactions produce a distinctly colored repetition - saturated, slightly compressed, with natural harmonic distortion that integrates seamlessly into a mix rather than sitting as an obvious effect.
The plugin's primary strength lies in its magnetic field modeling, which captures the nonlinear saturation and hysteresis inherent to the original hardware. The tube input section has been authentically replicated, including the pre-emphasis filtering that shapes the Echorec's signature warmth. Pulsar offers three unit models representing different hardware conditions, ranging from pristine magnetic clarity to heavily worn machines with pronounced coloration - a practical advantage over owning a single volatile vintage unit.

Real-world improvements enhance the original design considerably. Tempo sync and real-time motor speed adjustment eliminate the hardware's rigidity, while stereo drift functionality adds dimensional width through subtle left-right detuning. These features make the Echorec viable for modern production workflows without compromising its essential character.
This plugin suits engineers seeking authentic analog-era spatial effects for rock, alternative, and experimental music. It's equally valuable for those wanting to understand why certain classic recordings possess their distinctive spatial quality. While specialized in character, the Echorec remains practical across genres where subtle, colored delay serves the arrangement better than transparent alternatives. For producers invested in tape saturation and magnetic warmth, it represents the most accurate software approximation available.
