About this plugin
Native Instruments' Electric Keys - Timber Duo delivers meticulously modeled reproductions of two canonical electric keyboard instruments from the 1960s and 1970s, capturing both their inherent sonic character and performance dynamics. The plugin pairs deep physical modeling with flexible signal architecture, allowing producers and engineers to access authentic vintage textures without sacrificing modern workflow integration.
The core strength lies in dual signal chains that blend direct instrument output with cabinet impulse responses, granting precise control over the balance between pristine studio clarity and speaker coloration. This approach addresses a genuine limitation of vintage hardware: the inability to isolate dry and processed signals simultaneously. Preamp modeling handles frequency shaping and the subtle modulation characteristics that defined these instruments' expressive range, while the Color knob elegantly interpolates between mellow and percussive character layers captured during the modeling process.

The Ember voice excels in rhythmic applications, delivering the fast attack and harmonic snap essential for funk and soul contexts. Timber provides warmer, more sustained tonality suited to textural work and harmonic beds. Both benefit from comprehensive controls including mechanical response adjustment, low-end weight calibration, and Bell and Sub tone-shaping filters.
While positioned within Native Instruments' broader Effects ecosystem requiring Guitar Rig 7 integration, Electric Keys - Timber Duo stands apart through its commitment to authentic circuit behavior rather than superficial emulation. The plugin justifies consideration by session professionals, beat makers, and engineers seeking vintage keyboard character with contemporary flexibility and CPU efficiency.
