Product Overview
DualClip is a dual-stage saturation processor that combines a 16-band soft clipper with a single-band hard clipper, offering a comprehensive toolkit for loudness enhancement and creative distortion. The architecture addresses a fundamental challenge in modern mixing: controlling peaks while adding harmonic content that increases perceived loudness without sacrificing dynamics.
The soft clipper section operates across 16 frequency bands, generating warm, tape-like saturation characteristic of analog console behavior. This approach allows surgical control over where saturation occurs, with the Curve parameter directing effects toward lower or higher frequencies. The Smooth control extends release time for transparent operation, preventing the pumping artifacts that can occur with aggressive clipping.
The hard clipper operates in single-band mode, delivering bitcrusher-style distortion through aggressive waveform clipping. The Breach parameter preserves transient detail while the Soften control progressively smooths the resulting grittiness, balancing aggression with musicality. This dual-clipper design proves particularly effective on sources requiring simultaneous peak control and harmonic enhancement - drums benefit from punch definition, vocals from character, and bass instruments from improved frequency separation.
Additional features include three coloration modes (warm, clean, bright) for tonal shaping, three transient enhancement bands, and a brick wall limiter at the output for safety. Real-time metering displays both waveform and gain reduction across both clippers, enabling precise visual feedback during adjustment.
DualClip succeeds as both a surgical loudness tool and creative saturation instrument. It's well-suited for engineers requiring multiband saturation capabilities in a single, intuitive interface, competing effectively with more complex multiband processors while maintaining immediate usability.
