About this plugin
Chief Flanger is Audiority's dual-mode recreation of two essential analog flanger architectures: the Boss BF-2 and its hi-band variant, the HF-2. The plugin models the core BBD (bucket-brigade device) topology that defines these units' sonic character, capturing both their characteristic jet-plane sweep and the tonal complexity that made them studio standards.
The dual-mode design addresses a fundamental limitation of traditional flangers. Classic mode delivers the full-frequency modulation sweep synonymous with '70s and '80s production, while Hi-Band mode restricts the effect to upper midrange and treble, preserving low-end definition and mix clarity. This distinction matters considerably in dense arrangements where conventional flanging can muddy the foundation.

The control set - Manual, Depth, Rate, and Resonance - provides essential shaping, with tempo sync enabling rhythmic integration. Stereo spread and blend circuit options expand beyond the original hardware, allowing width manipulation and dry/wet balance without external mixing. The Trimmers section functions as a circuit calibration tool, letting users adjust modulation ranges, feedback saturation characteristics, and clock timing to taste or to match vintage unit variations.
Chief Flanger serves producers and mix engineers seeking authentic analog modulation without sacrificing workflow flexibility. The hi-band mode particularly appeals to those working in genres where traditional flanging creates phase issues - IDM, progressive electronic music, and detailed mixing scenarios benefit from the surgical approach. Compared to basic flanger implementations, Audiority's dual-mode architecture and BBD simulation provide substantive sonic differentiation, positioning it as a serious alternative for users valuing both character and precision.
